About P.A.R.T.Y.
The Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth (P.A.R.T.Y.) Program is a fast paced “tell it like it is” injury prevention program that educates teenagers about the outcomes of making poor choices. Based out of the Foothills Medical Centre, and funded by the Alberta Health Services Calgary Zone, the P.A.R.T.Y. Program offers full-day sessions three times a week to school groups of grade nine students. The program is also offered in a 2 hour condensed in-school version to Grade 9 students who are not able to attend the in-hospital sessions. Students hear from a number of speakers including police, firefighters, paramedics, registered nurses, rehabilitation staff, and injury survivors. Together we bring the students face to face with the reality of poor choices.
The first P.A.R.T.Y. program began at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto in 1986. A similar program began in Calgary in 1988 called the H.E.A.R.T Program (Hospital Emergencies Against Risk Related Trauma). Calgary joined the P.A.R.T.Y network in 1989 and that network has grown to include 73 programs across Canada, Several in the USA and Australia. Each program adheres to P.A.R.T.Y. Program National Standards, and is autonomous and responsible for their own financial support.
Since starting the Calgary program in 1988, the P.A.R.T.Y. Program has reached more than 139,000 teens. Sincere thanks to our past and current corporate and individual sponsors, teachers, parents, presenters, volunteers and those dedicated individuals who give their time to make this exciting program such a success. We could not do this without your support.
